PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team earned its first Ivy win of 2022 with a 4-0 defeat of Brown on Saturday afternoon. With the win Penn improved to 11-8 and 1-1 in Ivy matches.
Penn earned the doubles point with wins on court one
Marija Curnic and
Iuliia Bryzgalova, 6-4, and on court two
Sabine Rutlauka and
Eileen Wang, 7-6(5). Winning in a tiebreaker, Rutlauka/Wang clinched the double point for the Red and Blue.
Penn opened the singles with three straight victories to clinch the match point in straight sets on all three courts.
Gavriella Smith shutout her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 to make it 2-0 Penn.
Saige Roshkoff won 6-2 and 6-3 to put Penn up 3-0. Rutlauka clinched the match point for the Red and Blue winning 6-0 and 6-4.
