ROCKVILLE, Md. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team is in sixth place after completing the first day at Georgetown University's Hoya Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will conclude Sunday on the par-72 Woodmont Country Club course.

Penn shot 314 in the first round and then improved by seven strokes in the second round to finish the day at 621. Princeton holds the team lead after shooting a pair of 299s to end the day at 598; the Tigers are eight strokes ahead of second-place Boston University and 11 in front of third-place Harvard. Among the other Ivies in the field, Yale is seventh, two shots behind Penn, while Columbia is ninth at 637.
Individually, freshman
Natalie Cao had the best day for Penn as she shot a 74 and a 77 to end the day at 7-over-par 151. That has her tied for eighth in the field of 69 golfers. Another freshman,
Eunice Kim, didn't score for Penn in the morning round but came back with the team's best score in the afternoon, a 74; she is tied for 25th in the field.
Susan Xiao scored in both rounds on Saturday and is tied for 29th in the field at 158, while seniors
Mary Shin and
Leila Dizon are one shot behind her and tied for 34th in the field at 159.
A pair of Princeton players, Tiffany Kong and Kyung Eun Lee, are tied atop the leaderboard at 145. They are two shots ahead of third-place Hanna Kiefer from Stetson.
The 54-hole event will conclude with its third and final round on Sunday.
