ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew completed racing at the Cayuga Racing Series on Saturday morning, the Second Varsity Eight winning both of its races and the First and Third Varsity Eights splitting theirs.
Varsity Eight
In the Madeira Cup race early Saturday, Cornell's 11th-ranked boat barely kept the hardware with a 2.4-second victory on Cayuga's 2,000-meter course. The Big Red's time was 5:49.3, while Penn's 15th-ranked boat was clocked in 5:51.7.
In its second race on Saturday, the 1V8 was timed in 6:12.56 which had the Quakers finishing nearly five seconds ahead of Oregon State's 18th-ranked boat (6:17.13).
Second Varsity Eight
The Quakers opened the day with a two-second victory over Cornell, Penn's time of 5:55.2 bettering the Big Red's 5:57.3. In its second race, Penn clocked 6:22.55 which was more than eight seconds ahead of Oregon State (6:30.72).
Third Varsity Eight
Penn's win came against Oregon State, the Quakers' time of 6:33.42 well ahead of the Beavers (6:44.38). In the early race, Cornell (5:57.44) bested Penn (6:13.96).

Penn now points toward the EARC Sprints, which will be contested Sunday, May 15 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
