Men's Heavy Rowing

Good Start For Heavies at First Day of Cayuga Race Series

ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew began racing at the Cayuga Racing Series this afternoon, earning wins over Georgetown in the Varsity Eights and Second Varsity Eights races. The two-day event continues tomorrow with the Quakers facing Cornell—with the Madeira Cup on the line in the Varsity Eights race—and Oregon State.

Varsity Eight
Rankings held in Friday's race, the Quakers' 15th-ranked boat sweeping past the 19th-ranked Hoyas in a nearly 13-second victory across Cayuga's 2,000-meter course. Penn's time was 6:17.1—the best time among the four 1V8 boats on the day—while Georgetown was clocked in 6:29.9.

Second Varsity Eight
Penn had little trouble in this race, as well, beating Georgetown by more than nine seconds. The Quakers' time was 6:35.8 while the Hoyas' time was 6:45.1.

Third Varsity Eight
Penn faced a pair of Cornell boats in this race and fell to both in a hotly contested heat. The Quakers' time was 6:40.6, with less than six seconds separating the three boats.
