PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team had a nearly had a response for every Dartmouth run in Wednesday's series finale. The game was tied twice and saw four different lead changes. The Quakers fell 9-8 to Big Green as it was unable to complete its seventh inning rally.
Dartmouth 9, Penn 8
The game remained perfect through the first two innings as neither pitcher allowed a base runner.
The Big Green broke through first as they put a four spot up in the top of the third inning.
Penn tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as they
Bella Fiorentino drove in a pair of runs on an infield single making it 4-2. Then a few batters later,
Julia Mortimer tied the game with a two RBI base hit to center driving in
Emma Nedley and Fiorentino.
After Dartmouth used a ground rule double to regain the lead, the Red and Blue responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Fiorentino once again drove in a pair of runs to give Penn a 6-5 lead.
Dartmouth responded again to plate three runs in the top of sixth inning taking a 9-6 lead.
As they had done all game, the Red and Blue responded.
Brianna Brown laced a two RBI base hit up the middle to score
Sammy Fenton and
Corrie Phillips to pull Penn with in one run.
Needing just one run to tie the game and two to win, the Quakers put themselves in prime position to steal a win from the Big Green. Nedley was hit by a pitch and then
Madison Bauerle singled through the left side to put the winning run on base. However, the Penn rally was cut short as the Big Green got a strikeout swinging to end the game.
Quaker Notemeal
- Bella Fiorentino and Emma Nedley both had two hits on the day. Fiorentino was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Nedley went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Sarah Schneider swiped another base on Wednesday, her 11th of the season. Nedley also picked up a stolen base, her third of the year.

Penn will close out the regular season with a three-game series against the Yale Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday.
