RINGOES, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team is tied for fifth place after the first day at the Ivy League Championships. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on the par-72 course at The Ridge at Back Brook.
The Quakers are right in the mix after a first day that saw all six teams bunched up. Columbia holds the team lead after shooting 8-over-par 296 on Friday. Princeton is four strokes behind the Lions, and then the separation between third-place Harvard (305), fourth-place Dartmouth (306), and the teams in fifth (Penn and Yale at 307) is just two strokes. The margin from first to last is a mere 11 strokes after Friday's first round.

Natalie Cao led Penn individually on Friday, both shooting 3-over-par 75 which has them tied for eighth place in a field of 29 golfers who finished the round. Freshman

Mary Shin was one stroke behind her, scoring with a 79.
Selina Li stepped into the lineup for an injured
Susan Xiao and shot 80 on Friday.
Princeton's Yanjun Liu and Yale's Ami Gianchandani are the individual leaders after Friday's first round, as both carded a 1-under-par 71. That has them one stroke ahead of Columbia's Taylor Zeng. In all, the first five spots on the leadboard are held by players from five different schools.
Penn's tee times on Saturday are as follows: Li at noon; Shin at 12:10 p.m.; Kim at 12:20 p.m.; Dizon at 12:30 p.m.; and Cao at 12:40 p.m. The Quakers will play with Yale and Dartmouth on Saturday.
