PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight crew struggled in its races with top-ranked Yale and Columbia on Saturday, taking third on the Schuylkill River.
Varsity Eight
Yale's top-ranked boat wrested the Dodge Cup away from Columbia, clocking 6:23.5 across the Schuylkill's 2,000-meter course. The Lions were second in 6:30.2, while Penn was a distant third in 6:41.9.
Second Varsity Eight
Yale was the winner in this race, as well, clocking 6:24.2 which was nearly 10 seconds ahead of Columbia (6:34.0) which nipped Penn (6:35.5) for second place.
Third Varsity Eight
Yale's third and fourth boats were the first two across the line in this race, which kicked things off on the Schuylkill. The Bulldogs' third boat timed 6:22.1 while their fourth boat was clocked in 6:28.4. Columbia was third, in 6:31.0, while Penn was fourth in 6:53.8.

Penn is back in action next Saturday, making the short trip North to face Princeton on Lake Carnegie. The Wood-Hammond Cup will be in play in the Varsity Eights race.
