Baseball Posts Dual 10-Run Games in Ivy Doubleheader Sweep of Cornell

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team swept an Ivy League doubleheader from Cornell on Saturday, taking Game 1 10-1 and Game 2 10-4 behind strong starts from Kevin Eaise and Joe Miller and a monster offensive day from Wyatt Henseler.

The Quakers clinched their fourth straight Ivy League series to open conference play behind a 22-hit effort across the two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
Eaise surrendered a run in the first inning, but limited further damage with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Penn came back with three in the bottom of the inning. After reaching on an error, Tommy Courtney scored on a passed ball. Wyatt Henseler followed with a double to right, scoring Jackson Appel, and Ben Miller followed with another double to right, scoring Henseler.

The Big Red again put two runners on with one out in the second, but as he did in the first, Eaise ended the inning with back-to-back strikeouts without yielding a run.

Each pitcher settled in from the third through the fifth, allowing just two hits each. In the bottom of the sixth, Henseler broke the game open with a two-run shot to left.

Henseler put the icing on the cake with a double to left in the eighth for his fourth RBI of the game; Penn added its 10th run of the game later in the inning on a wild pitch

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
Miller flashed some early leather on the mound for Penn, snagging a screaming liner off the bat of the second Big Red hitter of the game as part of a scoreless, two-strikeout first.

Penn again got a run on the board in the first, as Courtney went station to station, drawing a walk before taking second on a passed ball, third on a fly out, and scoring on a ground out.

In the third, an Appel two-run double and RBI double for Henseler made it 4-0 Penn. After Cornell got on the board in the top of the fourth, Courtney stretched Penn's lead to 6-1 with a two-run single in the sixth.

After Cornell crept back within striking distance with an unearned run in the seventh and eighth, Penn broke the game open with a four-spot in the bottom of the eighth.

With two out, Appel got the scoring started with an RBI double, then Henseler capped his stellar day at the plate with a three-run shot to left. The sophomore finished the doubleheader 6-for-10 with five extra-base hits, four runs and nine RBI.
