Baseball Lights Up Scoreboard With 33 Runs In Sweep of Harvard

PHILADELPHIA – One day after inclement weather halted its doubleheader before the sixth inning of Game 1, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team picked up a pair of Ivy League wins Sunday over Harvard from O'Donnell Field in Cambridge, Mass.

Penn (19-8, 6-2) won the resumed game 27-6, then took the second game of the day 6-2, moving into sole possession of second place in the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Halted/Resumed Game)
The Quaker bats were on fire on Saturday, as seven of the Quakers' nine batters recorded a hit and eight of the nine scored at least one run, as Penn opened a 17-3 lead before the game was halted due to inclement weather.

Harvard (13-12, 5-3) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, but that lead would not last long. After Wyatt Henseler walked to lead off the second, Craig Larsen launched a two-run homer to left-center.

In the third, Tommy Courtney walked and Jackson Appel singled him to second. After Courtney moved to third on a wild pitch, Ben Miller plated him with a sacrifice fly. After Henseler doubled home Appel, Larsen stepped in and slugged his second two-run shot in as many innings, putting Penn up 6-1.

After Carson Ozmer was hit by a pitch and Cole Palis singled, Seth Werchan made it 9-1 with a three-run shot to right.

After a scoreless third for Harvard, Ben Miller launched the fourth homer in three innings for Penn in the fourth with a two-run bomb to center. After Penn loaded the bases on a hit by pitch, a single and a walk, a fielder's choice/error on Harvard pushed two more runs across.

Werchan followed with an RBI single, making it 13-1. After Drew Rogers drove in another run on a sac fly, Courtney doubled in Werchan and Appel singled in Courtney, putting the Quakers up 17-1.

Harvard added two in the bottom of the fourth before the game was halted with two out in the top of the fifth.

Once the game resumed Sunday afternoon, each team went scoreless in the fifth and sixth. Harvard added two in the seventh, but the Quakers responded with their third big inning of the game in the eighth.

Henseler doubled in Courtney, who led off the inning with a walk. An RBI groundout from Craig Larsen plated Miller, who had also walked. A single from Palis scored Henseler, and back-to-back bases loaded walks made it 22-5. With the bases still loaded and two out, Appel singled home two more.

In the ninth, Palis drove in two more with a double to right center and Cole McGonigal plated Carson Ozmer on a sacrifice fly.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Second Game)
Larsen's hot hitting continued into the second game as the senior co-captain went deep for the third time in two days to open the scoring in the second. Harvard answered back with a solo shot of its own in the bottom of the frame.

Kevin Eaise and Harvard starter Jaren Zinn settled in over the following few innings, as the teams combined for just four hits without scoring once.

With two out and the bases empty in the top of the sixth, singles by Larsen and Miller and a walk to Palis loaded the bases for Carson Ozmer, who broke the tie with a two-run single.

Appel doubled the lead with another two-run single the following inning and Henseler plated another with a single in the ninth.

Harvard got one back in the ninth, but Owen Coady closed out the win, picking up his second save of the season in the process.
