PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team closed out its three-match homestand with a 4-3 loss to the University of Maryland on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss Penn falls to 10-7 on the season.
Penn dropped the doubles point as
Marija Curnic and
Iuliia Bryzgalova lost 6-3 and then
Gavriella Smith and
Amanda Chan saw the Terps clinch the doubles point as they lost 6-1 on court 3.
Bryzgalova got quickly got the point back for Penn to tie the match score 1-1 as the won is straight sets. Penn went up 2-1 as Rutlauka won by default in the second set. At this point Maryland made its way back as it regained the lead with wins on courts three and four to take a 3-2 advantage. Smith earned the three-set victory on court four to tie the match at 3-3. The Terps then used a three-set victor on court five to earn the victory.
