Penn-Maryland Series
The Quakers and Terps are meeting for the 28th time in program history, with the Terps holding a 25-2 lead in the series. Maryland is currently on a 12-game win streak against Penn, as the Quakers last victory came in 2007 at Franklin Field, 9-7. In the past five matchups, Penn didn't lose a game by more than five goals. The Quakers will be in search of their first victory in College Park.
Last Time We Met
The last matchup was on March 13, 2019 in College Park, as the Terps took a 14-9 decision. In a battle of top 10 squads, the Quakers outshot Maryland, 26-23, for the game, but the Terps hit an eight-goal stretch midway through the first half to take a lead Penn couldn't overcome. Erin Barry had four goals, four ground balls, and four caused turnovers in the effort.
Abby Bosco, now spending her graduate season with the Terps, had a stellar game on defense for the Quakers with four caused turnovers.
About Maryland
The Terps enter Wednesday's game with an unblemished 7-0 record and No. 3 in the nation. They have wins this season against No. 11 Virginia (17-13), No. 7 Florida (18-8), and No. 12 Rutgers (16-6). Maryland has four players on the Tewaaraton Watch List, a list that features the top 51 players in women's lacrosse, including three fifth-year Terps. Bosco is on the list as one of the three fifth-years. The Terps are just one of four teams remaining with an undefeated record, partly because of their stout defense that ranks second in the nation in scoring defense with just seven goals allowed per game. They also rank third in the nation in offense with 17.71 goals per game. Leading that front is Aurora Cordingley who leads the country in points per game with 7.29. The fifth year has 30 goals and 21 assists through seven games this season.
Penn's Last Time Out
The Quakers are coming off a road victory on Saturday at Georgetown, 10-7. Penn scored the game's first three goals and 10 of the first 13 to outlast the Hoyas and move the all-time series to 8-2.
Keeley Block led the offense with a career-high five goals, her third multiple-score game of her freshman season.
Krissy Kowalski also had a career day back in the net, making 17 saves in 60 minutes of work.
Bosco On The Other Side
Abby Bosco had a record book career for the Quakers from 2018-2021. On Wednesday, she'll be wearing a different shade of red, playing her fifth year with the Terps. With Penn, she was an All-Ivy honoree in 2019 and Inside Lacrosse All-American in 2020. She helped the Quakers to the 2018 Ivy League regular-season title, and was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on February 17, 2020.
Kowalski Reels In First Collegiate Award
With her 17-save performance at Georgetown on Saturday, Kowalski was tabbed the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. It is her first honor in her collegiate career. The senior goalkeeper currently leads the Ivy League in goals-against average (9.46) and save percentage (.542), while ranking fourth in saves per game (8.67).
