PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team made easy work of its opponent on Sunday afternoon. Playing to clinch, Penn won the doubles point and then clinched the match with three straight singles wins as it defeated Rutgers, 4-0 on Sunday. The Quakers improved to 10-6 on the season. This match was a make up from January 29th, a match that was postponed due to weather in the Philadelphia area.
Penn opened the match claiming the doubles point as
Marija Curnic and
Iuliia Bryzgalova won 6-2 and then
Sabine Rutlauka /
Eileen Wang clinched the point with a 6-3 victory.
The Quakers earned the match victory with singles wins on courts 1, 2, and five. Curnic made easy work of her opponent as she took both sets by the same 6-1 score. Bryzgalova put Penn within one point of winning with a 6-2 win in set one and a 6-3 win in set two.
Amanda Chan clinched the match point for the Red and Blue with a 6-1 win in the first set and a 6-3 victory in set two.
