Composto Places Eighth at 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships

DETROIT – The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team closed out its season on Saturday morning as sophomore All-American CJ Composto placed eighth at 141 pounds. The three-day NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships took place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. As a team, Penn finished with 15.5 points for 27th place.

Composto competed extremely well all season long as he worked to earn his self a spot on the podium and All-America status at 141 pounds. Composto's final bout of his first collegiate season came on Saturday morning as faced Minnesota's Jakob Bergland.  Composto opened the bout with an attempt to go low on Bergland and unfortunately played into the Gophers plan as he quickly put him on the mat and grew his riding time. This proved to be a struggle for Composto as he was unable to make any moves as he lost by major decision (10-0).

Composto became the lastest to earn All-American status since Casey Kent placed fourth at the 174 pounds in 2016. Composto became the first All-American at 141 pounds since Zack Kemmerer placed eighth in 2011.
