PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team picked up a crucial 6-3 win over Cornell on Sunday afternoon at the Penn Squash Center.
The Quakers, ranked ninth in the latest Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) poll, knocked off the eighth-ranked Big Red in a dramatic match that could go a long way in determining the participants' seeds in the upcoming Howe Cup at the CSA Team Championships.
Amina Abou El Enin and
Navmi Sharma staked Penn a 2-1 lead at the end of the first wave. El Enin finished her 3-0 win in just 24 minutes, with Sharma winning in four games after dropping the first. Cornell took the first two matches of the second wave, but
Emma Wolf picked up a four-game win to knot things at three heading into the day's final trifecta of matches.
With the crowd growing louder with every passing points,
Yoshna Singh picked up the first point of the final wave with a four-game win. Mere moments later,
Avni Anand clinched the victory for the Quakers with another four-game win. Shortly after that,
Emma Carter closed out the day with a five-game win.
