No. 11 Men's Lacrosse Faces No. 7 Duke in Long Island Metro Cup

PHILADELPHIA – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse will face No. 7 Duke on Saturday in a neutral-site contest in Long Island. The No. 11 Quakers and the Blue Devils will battle at MacArthur High School in Levittown, New York in the inaugural Long Island Metro Cup.

Quaker Notemeal
*Penn fell to No. 3 Georgetown, 10-8, last weekend. It marked the first game against a Division I opponent since March 8, 2020.

*The Quakers are ranked No. 11 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 10 in the Inside Lacrosse  Media Poll. Duke is seventh in both polls.

*Dylan Gergar had four goals versus the Hoyas. Dating back to 2020, Gergar has netted four or more markers in five straight games.

*Emmet Carroll made his first collegiate start in goal for Penn last Saturday and he made a career-high 12 saves.

*Cam Rubin (2g/1a) and Sam Handley (1g/2a) had three points each versus Georgetown.

*Both Handley and Gergar were named to the preseason Tewaaraton Award Watch List.

*Brendan Lavelle had a team-high six GB against Georgetown while Theo Lenz had two CT and two GB last Saturday.

*James H Greene, Jr. Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse Mike Murphy is a graduate of Duke. He was a three-year starter and a captain of the 1991 Blue Devil squad.

*Murphy has had success against his alma mater, winning two of the last three games (202 and 2018) versus Duke.

*Penn named five captains prior to the start of the season. The five Quakers selected to lead the Red and Blue as team captains are: Ben BedardPiper BondDylan GergarSam Handley, and Theo Lenz.

*The Quakers were picked to finish second in the Ivy League's Preseason Media Poll, which came from the votes of two members of each school's media contingent.
