Men’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to Princeton, 4-3, in ECAC Indoor Quarterfinals

ITHACA, N.Y.  – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team fell, 4-3, in its Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships Quarterfinal match to Princeton University on Friday morning from the Reis Tennis Center.

The Quakers dropped the doubles point to begin play and the first singles match of the day, but rallied to tie the match at 2-all and 3-all before the Tigers came out on top in the deciding match. The teams of Zach Smith/Aditya Gupta and Kevin Zhu/Harsh Parikh both fell in doubles action, with the match featuring Edoardo Graziani and Jason Hildebrandt ruled incomplete once the Tigers had clinched the doubles point.

After the Quakers went down 2-0, back-to-back wins by Parikh and Gupta knotted the match. Both men moved to 5-0 in the spring with the wins, while Parikh ran his streak of consecutive sets won to 10. The Tigers regained the lead, 3-2, but only briefly, as Graziani won in straight sets to move to 4-0 in the spring.

In the last match of the day, Hildebrandt put up a tremendous fight against Karl Poling, the 68th-ranked player in Division I in the latest International Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, before Poling eventually clinched the win for Princeton.
