PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a 2022 season that included an Ivy League Tournament championship and a run to the NCAA quarterfinal round, the University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse program has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2023 campaign.
The Quakers will open the 2023 season at Georgetown on Saturday, Feb. 18. Penn began last season at home with the Hoyas, taking a 10-8 defeat.
Penn follows that opening matchup with a date against Duke on Saturday, Feb. 25. The time and location for this contest is still to be determined. The teams have played at neutral sites the last two times they met, including last year when the Quakers topped the Blue Devils in overtime, 14-13, at MacArthur High School in Levittown, N.Y.
One week later, on March 4, Penn heads to University Park to renew its intrastate rivalry with Big Ten foe Penn State. The Quakers won a thriller a season ago against the Nittany Lions, as
James Shipley put away a game-winner in the closing seconds in Charlotte, N.C.
Penn is excited for Philly 4 doubleheaders to return in 2023. The first one will take place at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, March 8, the Quakers meeting the Hawks that night. Penn will then host a doubleheader at Franklin Field on Saturday, March 11 as Drexel takes on Saint Joseph's at noon before the Red and Blue hosts Villanova at 3:30 p.m.
Penn will begin Ivy League play with Princeton on Saturday, March 18 at a location to be determined. One week later, the Quakers head to Ithaca, N.Y. to face off against 2022 NCAA finalist Cornell.
On the first day of April, Penn hosts Yale before back-to-back road contests — at Brown on April 8 and at Harvard on April 15 — which set up a home game against Dartmouth on Saturday, April 22.
The Quakers will close out the regular season with one final non-league matchup and home finale against UAlbany at Penn Park on Wednesday, April 26.
The 2023 Ivy League Tournament is scheduled to take place Friday, May 5 (semifinals) and Sunday, May 7 (final).
