PHILADELPHIA – Senior
Sizzy Lawton and juniors
Ginger Fontenot and
Laurence Gladu from the University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team garnered All-Ivy distinction, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. This marks the 25th consecutive season that at least three Quakers were named All-Ivy. In addition, Fontenot earned Academic All-Ivy honors.
Lawton and Fontenot are second team All-Ivy selections while Gladu earned honorable mention status for a second straight year. This marks a second straight year for Lawton with second team honors.
Lawton led the Penn offense in points (12), goals (4), and assists (4). Half of her goals resulted in the game-winner as she scored game-winning tallies against Stony Brook and Fairleigh Dickinson. Lawton assisted on goals that helped rally Penn to draws against Saint Mary's, #16 Harvard and Cornell.
Fontenot saw the fourth most minutes played as she started in all 15 matches she played in 2022. She helped anchor a backline that limited the opposition to one or fewer goals in 12 matches. She recorded her only shot on the season in Penn's scoreless draw with Temple to open the year.
Gladu played in 15 of Penn's 16 matches in goal for the Quakers in 2022. The junior finished third in the Ivy League with 48 saves and was second in the league with a 1.153 goals against average. She was second in the league in minutes played, just under 120 minutes behind Dartmouth's keeper. She posted a pair of shutout victories against Temple and Stony Brook.
