How It Happened
Although the squads had their fair share of shots in the first two quarters, the first goal of the game didn't find the back of the cage until under two minutes left in the half. With a foul called inside the circle, the Quakers called on senior defender Geller to step up to take the penalty stroke. A player that doesn't see many scoring opportunities didn't show any hesitation putting a perfect shot past the keeper for her first collegiate goal.
Â
Penn carried the 1-0 lead into the break and added a cushion with four minutes left in the third quarter. Setup for a penalty corner,
Courtney Kenah inserted a pass to the top of the circle where Geller laid down the ball for Banks to send a ripped shot through the defensive traffic, past the goalkeeper and into the cage.
Â
With a minute left in the third, the Big Green cut the deficit back to one then added the game-tying finish with three minutes left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. No decision was made in the opening 10 minutes, but only a minute was used in the second overtime to put Penn into the win column.
Â
Quick transition down the field had
Elita Van Staden making a right-side pass into the circle to Loozen. Making a one touch move outside, Loozen fired off a shot to the top left corner of the goal, completely out of reach for the Big Green keeper.
Â
The Quakers conclude the season 7-10, 4-3 in the Ivy League.
