PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore quarterback
Aidan Sayin showed up and starred in the University of Pennsylvania football team's gritty 20-19 season-ending win over #22 Princeton Saturday afternoon, earning himself Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced for the final time this season on Monday.
Sayin orchestrated a final drive to perfection in the closing minute, converting on three fourth downs including a 4th and 9 as well as a five-yard toss to
Trey Flowers with five seconds left to put the Quakers ahead.
He completed 81 percent of his passes with 38 completions, the second-most in program history and the most since Alek Torgersen's 40 against the Tigers in 2014. Sayin also threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
The second year signal-caller closes his year with 18 touchdown passes, the sixth-most in single-season program history and 2,344 passing yards (fifth most). Sayin led the Ivy League in total completions (253) and was tied for the league-lead in passing TDs (18).
Joining Sayin on the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll were defensive lineman
Joey Slackman, running back
Jordan Niles and freshman defensive back
Francesco Barone.
Penn closed the 2022 season tied for second place with an 8-2 overall record, 5-2 in Ivy play.
