PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's men's and women's fencing teams hosted a busy day of competition in their second event of the season Saturday in the Elite Invitational against a handful of the nation's top teams from across the country.

The women, #9 in the United States Fencing Coaches' Association (USFCA) poll finished the day 4-2 with three wins over top-15 teams and the men, #12 in the USFCA poll, finished 4-1 with a pair of top-10 wins.

The women started the day with a thrilling 14-13 win over #12 Northwestern and followed it up with a 16-11 win over North Carolina. In the afternoon session, the Quakers bookended their final three rounds with a 16-11 win over #11 UC San Diego and a 20-7 win over #25 Air Force.

The men started their day with three straight wins: an 18-9 win over #6 North Carolina, a 19-8 win over #10 Ohio State, and a 17-10 win over UC San Diego. After a loss to #8 Notre Dame, Penn closed the day with a 15-12 win over Air Force.

Both teams will return to action January 15 for the Penn State Invitational.
