How It Happened
The Lions spent most the first half on the attack as they registered five shots including four on target. Gladu kept the Lions off the board through the first 45 minutes as she made four saves.
Lucas had Penn's only shot of the first half, putting an effort right on the Lions keeper in the 13th minute.
Early in the second half, the Red and Blue had a pair of breakaways but were denied goals both times. On the first, Glass took a ball up the far side of the field and fired a shot on target that was blocked by a Columbia defender. Less than a minute later,
Janae Stewart nearly got one past the Lions back line as she redirected a header right at the Columbia keeper.
Just past the hour mark, Gladu made a quality save at one end of the pitch and the Red and Blue went on the counter. Lawton played a ball to end line and slotted a shot between the Columbia keeper and near post to open the scoring.
However, nearly 10 minutes later the Lions equalized. Off the free kick outside the left side of the box, Columbia's Ania Prussak tucked a shot over Gladu but under the crossbar and inside the far post to tie things up. Nearly 10 minutes later, Columbia was awarded a penalty kick following a handball called on Penn in the box. Kat Jordan sent her shot the opposite direction that Gladu dove and gave her team a 2-1 advantage.
As the Quakers worked to generate something on the attack the Lions had an answer as they prevented Penn from recording any shots after Lawton's goal.
