PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's fencing team opened the 2022-23 season in style Sunday at the Temple Open, taking the top spot in foil and sabre among 10 total fencers finishing in respective top 16's.

Bryce Louie took first place in foil for the second straight year, winning 30 of 48 points between the semifinal and final.
Blake Broszus finished in the top four, also for the second straight year.

Davide Lorenzoni made a significant impact in his first collegiate competition, taking sixth after falling to Broszus in the quarterfinals.
Eric Yu finished 15th, giving Penn four top 16 finishers in the discipline.

Simon Kushkov took the top spot in sabre, winning 30 of 44 points between the semifinal and final.

Nicholas Molina (10th),
Enzo Bergamo (14th), and

Avery Townsend as top 16 finishers when Townsend took 12th in epee, the high finisher in the discipline for the Quakers.
