PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second consecutive week, senior defensive lineman
Jake Heimlicher was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after pacing the University of Pennsylvania football team's defense in a 23-17 double-overtime win at Dartmouth on Friday.
Heimlicher is the program's first-ever back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week award winner and the Ivy League's first (eighth all-time) since Dartmouth's Isiah Swann in 2018.
He led the Quakers with 13 total tackles (including eight solos), both of which were career highs for the senior. Two of his 13 tackles were for a loss of 10 yards.
Through the season's first three games, Heimlicher leads Penn with 28 total tackles and 17 solo tackles. His solo tackle number is tied for the Ivy League's lead with Dartmouth's Tyron Herring.
With Heimlicher's help, the Quaker defense held the Big Green to just 193 rushing yards, which is nearly half of what they averaged heading into Friday's contest. Prior to Friday, Dartmouth had been the second-leading rushing team in the FCS at 350.5 yard per game. Penn's rushing defense was first in FCS football at 22.0 yards.
Looking for a 4-0 start to the 2022 campaign, Penn concludes non-league action on Saturday at Georgetown with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
