Sprint Football Plays for First CSFL South Title Since 2017 at Navy Friday

PHILADELPHIA – Playing a pivotal divisional game on the road Friday evening, the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team will have an opportunity to claim the outright top spot in the CSFL South division against Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The Quakers, who take on the Midshipmen, have not won the South divisional title since 2017 and are playing Navy for the championship for a second consecutive season.

Game 6: PENN (3-2, 2-0 CSFL South) at NAVY (4-0, 1-0 CSFL South)
October 21 | 7 p.m. | Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (Annapolis) | Live Stats

Getting Streaky
The Quakers enter Friday with two straight victories over Chestnut Hill and Cornell and will look for a third consecutive against Navy. A victory Friday would give the Quakers at least four wins for the eighth straight season dating back to 2014.

A League of His Own
Senior defensive lineman Travis Legum has been nothing short of impressive this year for Penn, leading the defense with 6.5 sacks, by far the most by a Quaker defender since Patrick Boyle had seven in 2016. Legum also leads the team with 8.5 tackles for a loss out of his 17 total tackles this year.

Passing Attack
Senior QB Andrew Paolini has been consistently good this season for the Quakers and will need an equally stout performance Friday night in the final regular season road game of his career at Navy. Paolini has completed 54.4 percent (81-for-149) of his passes this season for 1,156 yards and six touchdowns (only two interceptions). He also has accounted for all three of Penn's rushing touchdowns this season.

Not So Fresh
Freshman wideout Brandon Graves hasn't played like a freshman this season, proving himself as a force to be reckoned with and a top target for years to come within Penn's system. Graves has made 18 catches for 407 yards and a team-high four touchdowns this year. The only other player that has caught TDs from Paolini this season has been Jake Wang, who has a team-high 27 catches for 368 yards and a pair of touchdowns to his credit.

Leading Tacklers
The Quakers will need a strong effort out of some of their leading tacklers in this particular game, looking at freshman linebacker Charles Tauckus and sophomore linebacker Jake Inserra. Tauckus leads the way with 38 total tackles (19 solos) and 4.5 tackles for a loss, while Inserra is second on the team with 34 total tackles (18 solos) and a pair of TFLs.

Picked Off
Penn defenders have tallied five interceptions over the last two games (including four against Chestnut Hill on Oct. 7). Cam Janock made a key pickoff late in the fourth quarter against Cornell, intercepting Xavier Martinez and returning it to the Big Red five-yard line. That put the game on ice as the Quaker offense kneeled down to run the clock out to secure the shutout victory.

Scouting the Midshipmen
There's no secret Navy has been the most complete team heading into this important divisional contest Friday and head into the weekend unbeaten. Navy comes into the matchup off a bye week and have not played since a 55-0 drubbing of Cornell on Oct. 7. Besides wins over Chestnut Hill and Caldwell, the Midshipmen also have a big win against rival academy Army (27-13) on Sept. 23. QB Brandon Atwood has completed just 46 passes for 601 yards and five touchdown passes. Navy's rushing attack has been the real story as Alex Totta leads the way with 90 rushes for 526 total yards and six scores.

All-Time Series
Navy leads the all-time series against Penn and it's not close. The Mids are 75-8-2 all-time against the Quakers including 36-3-2 at home. Penn won back-to-back games in 2016 and 2017 but Navy has claimed the previous three meetings.
