Fencing Returns Home For Philadelphia Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's fencing teams will host their first event in 734 days when they welcome more than 20 institutions from around the country to the Tse Center this weekend for the Philadelphia Invitational.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers opened the new year at the Penn State Invitational last Sunday. The women finished the day 3-1 and the men finished 2-2, including a win over North Carolina, then-ranked #7 in the US Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) poll.

Men
The Quakers enter the weekend 20th in the latest USFCA Poll. The sabre team has won 44 of 81 total bouts this year, while the epee team has won 50 of 81 total bouts. Hugh Milam (Epee) won seven of 12 bouts at Penn State, Jerry Wu (Foil) won eight of 12 bouts, and Xiteng Lin (Sabre) won nine of 12 bouts.

Women
The Quakers are currently ranked 8th in the latest USFCA Poll and enter the weekend 7-2 through their first two meets. The epee team has won 57 of 81 total bouts thus far and the foil team has won 51 of 81 total bouts. Jessica Liang (Epee) won eight of 12 bouts at Penn State and is 14-9 over the season's first two meets. Justina Lam (Foil) won 10 of 12 bouts at Penn State and is 19-6 over the season's first two meets.

Previewing the Field
The Penn men will compete in 10 matches over the weekend while the women will compete in 12 matches. On Saturday, both teams will face Johns Hopkins, North Carolina, Duke, NYU and Sacred Heart. Additionally, the men will face NJIT and Haverford, while the women will face Cornell and Wagner.

On Sunday, each team will square off with Drew, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. Additionally, the women will face Temple and Northwestern.

In all, the men will battle seven teams in the USFCA Top 15 and the women will battle five.
