Week Two of the 2021 season is here for the #UPrising! Penn travels to face Lafayette on Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pennsylvania. The Quakers and the Leopard are playing for the 92nd time and it marks just the second meeting between the two regional rivals since 2013.
The Penn-Lafayette Series
Saturday's matinee is the 92nd meeting between Penn and Lafayette. The Quakers lead the all-time series, 64-23-4, and the Red and Blue have won 14 of the 23 meetings at Fisher Stadium. The series began in 1882 with a Penn victory. The two teams are playing for the second season in a row and just the second time since 2013.
Looking Back on the 2019 Meeting
Penn and Bucknell last met in September of 2019 with the Quakers scoring a 28-24 victory on the road.
Ryan Cragun had a pair of TD receptions in the contest and Penn ran for 260 yards.
Brian O'Neill had a big game defensively, recording nine tackles. He had 5.0 TFLs and 2.0 sacks. As a whole, the Quakers registered seven sacks.
Season-Opening Success
Penn topped Bucknell, 30-6, in Lewisburg last Saturday in the season-opener for the Quakers. Under George A. Munger Head Coach of Football

John Quinnelly had a strong debut for the Quakers against the Bison. In his first collegiate start, Quinnelly was 15-of-22 passing for 273 yards a pair of TDs. He also rushed 30 yards. Quinnelly connected on TD passes to

Rory Starkey, Jr. and
Ryan Cragun had big games at Bucknell. Starkey caught two passes for 113 yards, highlighted by a 70-yard TD grab, while Cragun hauled in six passes for 110 yards and a 45-yard TD reception. It was the first time since November 11, 2016, that two Quaker wideouts had over 100 yards receiving in a game. In that contest, Justin Watson had 10 catches for 120 yards and a TD, while Christian Pearson caught 7 for 101 and a TD in a 27-14 victory over #22 Harvard.
Hold The Line
Penn had a stout defensive effort in the season-opener. Bucknell converted only 23 percent (4-of-17) of it's third-down attempts last Saturday. Penn also stopped the Bison on three of their four fourth-down attempts. Â
Let's Kick It
Senior kicker
Daniel Karrash had a strong start to the 2021 season at Bucknell. Karrash was 3-of-3 on FGs and 3-of-3 on PATs. He connected on kicks of 20, 24 and 32-yards. Karrash accounted for a career-high 12 points in the 30-6 win over Bucknell.
Most Efficient
John Quinnelly had a 202.4 passer efficiency rating in week one at Bucknell. It was the top mark in all NCAA FCS action last week and he currently has the highest mark in the country. Quinnelly is also averaging an FCS-leading 18.2 yards per completion.
Ball Hawk
Senior DB
Jason McCleod, Jr. had a strong season-opening game at Bucknell. He notched his first career interception on the first drive of the second half for the Bison and he also had four pass breakups. He currently leads the FCS in passes defended per game.
Mohammed Diakite also had two PBU and three tackles in the secondary.
Touchdown Machine
Senior WR Rory Starkey had two grabs for 113 yards and a TD at Bucknell. Dating back to 2019, he has scored a touchdown in six straight games. Starkey had catches of 70 and 43 yards. He currently leads the FCS in yards per catch (56.5).
Closing in on History
Senior WR
Ryan Cragun has 64 catches for 995 yards in his career. He is looking to become just the 21st player in program history to register 1,000 career receiving yards. At Bucknell in week one, he recorded his fifth career game with over 100 receiving yards.
Feed Trey
Senior RB
Trey Flowers had nine carries for 43 yards and a TD at Bucknell. The one-yard run against the Bison marked his second career TD. His first TD run came back in 2018 against Dartmouth. Flowers also had one catch for two yards.
Fresh Legs
Four different players had at least nine carries for the Quakers at Bucknell. Senior starter
Isaiah Malcome had 11 carries for a team-high 80 yards and
Jonathan Mulatu had a career-high 10 carries for 50 yards.
Trey Flowers had 44 yards on the ground and a TD, while QB
John Quinnelly scrambled for 30 yards.
The Captains
It is an historic season for the Quakers in 2021. For the first time in the program's 144-year history, Penn will have five captains this fall. In a vote by teammates,
Brian O'Neill,
Prince Emili,
Isaiah Malcome,
Jake Heimlicher, and
Trevor Radosevich were named captains for the year. Every member of the senior class on the team received at least one vote from their teammates.
Preseason Honors
A quartet of Quakers were named to the 2021 Phil Steele Preseason All-Ivy League Team.
Brian O'Neill and
Prince Emili both garnered first team honors on defense, while wide receivers
Ryan Cragun and
Rory Starkey, Jr. each landed on the first team as well
