PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team closed out a highly successful run-up to Ivy League play on Sunday, winning in dramatic overtime fashion over Rice at Rhodes Field, 2-1.
Senior
Jackie Bruder had the winner 6:31 into the first extra session on Sunday, allowing the Quaker to remain perfect on Rhodes in 2021. Penn improved to 5-1-2 with the victory, while Rice is now 7-2-1.

How It Happened
Penn needed just 2:14 of match time to go in front on Sunday. Stewart collected the ball about 40 yards out, raced down the right side, and uncorked a scorching shot that went past Rice goalkeeper's Bella Killgore right and into the upper far corner.
It looked like that might hold up for the day, as Penn's stout defense was ably backed up by goalkeeper
Laurence Gladu. However, with just 4:52 remaining in regulation Rice finally broke through. Off a corner kick from the right side, the ball fell in front of the goal and bounced around. Amidst the scramble, the Owls' Delaney Schultz pushed it into the goal. Penn pleaded its case while Gladu lay on the ground in obvious pain, but the ref wasn't having it and the goal stood.
That set the stage for Bruder's overtime winner. The Quakers dispossessed Rice near midfield along the left sideline, and
Sizzy Lawton drove into the middle from about 35 yards out. She lost it as she turned inward, but Teuschl beat a Rice defender to the ball and pushed a nice pass directly into Bruder's path on the right wing. Bruder took a touch to settle the ball as she entered the area, then calmly pushed a shot past Killgore's right and inside the far post to clear the bench in celebration.
