PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's Douglas N. Brush Head Coach of Women's Soccer,
Casey Brown, has announced her program's captains for the 2021 season. Senior
JoJo Cotto and juniors
Emily Pringle and
Peyton Raun will lead the Quakers into the campaign, which begins tomorrow afternoon at city rival Temple (4 p.m.).
"We are very excited to announce our captains for this season," said Brown, who was hired in March 2020 and enters her first season overseeing the program due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "JoJo, Emily and Peyton all epitomize what it means to be a Penn Women's Soccer player, and they will certainly play pivotal roles in leading our team forward."
Raun (Pleasanton, Calif.) was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection in 2019, starting 15 of Penn's 16 matches in her freshman campaign and logging more minutes (1,330) than any other Quakers player. As an anchor in Penn's backfield, she helped secure five shutouts.
Pringle (La Jolla, Calif.) made six starts and 11 appearances as a freshman in 2019, playing outside back. She helped secure four shutouts for the Quakers, logging at least 86 minutes in five different matches that season. Pringle also took three shots her freshman year, putting one on goal.
Cotto (Menlo Park, Calif.) has suffered an injury-plagued career thus far at Penn, suffering a season-ending injury in just her second match as a freshman in 2018 and then coming back late in her sophomore season from that injury to see time against Delaware State.
Following Friday's season opener on North Broad, the Quakers are home for the first time this season on Sunday when they host George Mason at 7 p.m. Both of this weekend's matches will air on ESPN+.
