PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer program and James C. Gentle head coach,
Brian Gill, have announced another addition to their staff, welcoming
Joshua West as the Director of Operations.
"I want to thank Coach Gill for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Quaker family," said West. "It is a great opportunity to learn from a coach who has been at the top of the collegiate game for years. I am honored to work with such a great group of players like we have here at Penn. I look forward to doing my part to help this great program!"
West has a surplus of soccer experience between playing and coaching, dating back to his college days where he was a four-year starter for the College of William and Mary up to his graduation in 2015. Also, during that time, he played for three different Professional Development League/National Premier Soccer League teams including Virginia Legacy 76, RVA FC and Fredericksburg FC.
"It's exciting to have Josh joining our staff as a Director of Operations," said Gill. "He is someone I have known back in his playing days in high school and then when he went onto a successful career at the College of William and Mary."
His coaching days started back at William and Mary, taking the head coaching gig for the junior varsity boys' program at Jamestown while assisting the varsity team that won the State Tournament Championship.
Over the last six years, he has coached all ages of club and varsity boys' and girls' soccer in Virginia and Georgia with his most recent venture being at Cedar Shoals High School. While teaching four years of high school special education and mathematics, he has been the varsity head coach for the girls' team and the Assistant Athletics Director.
Adding onto his already heavy workload, he was also the head coach for the Athens United u15 and u16 boys' team for two years where he led the u15 team to No. 2 in the Georgia Premier League and the u16 boys to a promotion in consecutive years from Classic 3 to Classic 1.
"Just in our short time with Josh around the program here, I appreciate his work ethic and eye for detail," continued Gill. "Having his input in the office as well as with the staff on our day-to-day operations will be a big plus for the team."
