PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's head volleyball coach,
Meredith Schamun, has announced her program's 2021 schedule. The Quakers will start the year by hosting a tournament and will be home seven times during the Ivy League season.
"We are thrilled and looking forward to the upcoming season," said Schamun, who was hired in March 2020 and will oversee her first regular season with the Quakers this fall. "It has been a long time coming and this team is so ready to compete. This fall is sure to present challenges as we face strong competition in and out of the conference, especially after so long away from the game. However, this group has worked hard and is excited for the future. We especially look forward to opening the 2021 season at home in The Palestra!"
Penn will indeed open the 2021 campaign on its home court, hosting Bucknell, Canisius and Coppin State at the Sheraton University City Volleyball Invitational on September 3-4. The Quakers are currently slated to play the Bison on that Friday night, then face the Golden Griffins on Saturday morning before concluding the tournament with the Eagles.
The Quakers travel to Chicago for the DePaul Invitational a week later, where they are slated to face the host Blue Demons on Saturday, Sept. 11 following Friday matches against Akron and Oakland (Mich.). Following a midweek match at Lehigh on Tuesday, Sept. 14, Penn makes the short trip to Temple for a round-robin event with the Owls and Big 5 rival Villanova on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The Ivy League season starts in New Jersey with travel partner Princeton on Friday, Sept. 24, before the Red and Blue return home to face Harvard (Friday, Oct. 1) and Dartmouth (Saturday, Oct. 2) to kick off the October slate of matches. Penn will be at Columbia and Cornell October 8-9, then stay home for matches against Brown (Friday, Oct. 15), Yale (Saturday, Oct. 16) and Princeton (Friday, Oct. 22). The Quakers travel the next two weekends after that, to Dartmouth/Harvard and then Yale/Brown, before finishing the regular season at home with Cornell (Friday, Nov. 12) and Columbia (Saturday, Nov. 13/Senior Night).
