Women's Basketball Adds Sydnei Caldwell To 2021-22 Roster

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's head women's basketball coach, Mike McLaughlin, has announced the addition of Sydnei Caldwell to the Quakers' roster for the 2021-22 season. Caldwell comes to Penn after playing at Arizona State University the last two years and will have two years of eligibility with the Quakers.
 
"We are very excited to have Sydnei spend the second half of her college career with the Quakers," said McLaughlin. "With her two years of college experience and leadership, we believe she is a perfect fit and will adapt quickly to the program. We see Sydnei having an immediate impact on this year's team and can't wait to see her in the red and blue."

2020-21 (Arizona State): One of just four players to play in all 24 games, averaging 14.4 minutes per game … Scored 105 points, averaging 4.4 ppg … Totaled 51 rebounds, 24 steals and 18 assists … Scored six points with one steal and two rebounds against eventual national champion Stanford (1/3) … Followed it up with another six points, two steals and a rebound against the Cardinal (2/19).
 
2019-20 (Arizona State): Played in 18 games and averaged 6.7 minutes per game … Scored six points (3-5 FGs) in her Sun Devil debut vs. Air Force (11/5) … Scored five points and had a team- and career-high three steals in win over Middle Tennessee (12/1) … Added five points (2-4 FGs) in win over New Mexico (12/14) … Scored five points vs. No. 4 Stanford (3/1).

Prior to Arizona State: A 2019 McDonald's All-American Game nominee from the state of New Jersey, Caldwell was ranked No. 28 at her position by ESPN.com … As a senior in 2019, Caldwell averaged 14.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 4.1 spg in helping lead her Saddle River Day squad to a 28-3 record and an appearance in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions final … Accomplishments in 2019 included scoring 20 or more points five times, posting a double-digit rebound total nine times and setting a single-game career-high 11 steals … In 2018, Caldwell averaged 15.8 points, 3.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds at Gill St. Bernard's High School where she led her squad to the South Jersey, Non-Public B semifinals … For her outstanding play in 2018, Caldwell earned First-Team All-Conference, Third-Team All-State (non-public), Honorable Mention All-Area (Courier News) and Honorable Mention All-NJ recognition … As a sophomore, Caldwell averaged 19.6 points per game as a and scored a career-high 36 points in a win over No. 8 Franklin in the semifinals of the Somerset County Tournament … As a freshman in 2016, Caldwell was named First-Team All-Conference, Second-Team All-Area (Courier News) and Honorable Mention All-NJ honors … Played AAU basketball for the New Jersey Sparks, starting all three years and finishing seventh place at the Nike EYBL tournament.

Personal: Daughter of Sue and Mike Caldwell ... Has two younger siblings: Saniah (sister) and Simeon (brother) … Mother is in the University of Tennessee Track & Field Hall of Fame as a sprinter and was a 1992 and 1996 Olympic Trials qualifier … Father is in Football Hall of Fame for Middle Tennessee State University, played inside linebacker in the NFL for 11 years, and is going on 13 years as an inside linebacker coach in the NFL … Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
