PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team opened its 2021 spring campaign with a 6-1 victory against visiting Drexel on Thursday afternoon at the Hamlin Tennis Center.
The Quakers (1-0) got off to a quick start, winning two doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. At No. 2,
Amanda Chan and
Iris Gallo cruised to a 6-1 win.
Iuliia Bryzgalova and
Marija Curnic helped secure the doubles point thanks to scoring a 6-2 victory at No. 1.
The Red and Blue were dominant in singles action, winning five of the six matches. Curnic, Gallo and Chan scored straight set wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. At No. 1, Bryzgalova won a three-set thriller, 6-0, 4-6 and 6-0.
Gibson Thomas picked up the other victory for Penn as she outlasted Isabel Cabrerizo, 4-6, 6-3 and 10-8.
