Penn Quakers to be Featured at the Men's and Women's Final Four

Quaker fans might see some familiar faces during the Men's and Women's Final Fours this weekend. Through the NCAA's Final Four Heroes campaign, member schools were given the unique opportunity to recognize impactful alumni and healthcare heroes by placing fan cutouts in the stands. Fans who see the Quakers are encouraged to snap a picture and share them with us on Twitter or Instagram @PennAthletics.

The following cutouts will appear at the Men's Final Four on Saturday, April 3 and Monday, April 5:
  • Dr. Drew Weissman - an infectious disease expert at Penn Medicine, he created the mRNA vaccine technology that is a critical component of Pfizer-BioNTech's and Moderna's mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines and others being developed globally.
  • Tony Price, W'79 - he saved his best for last as a Penn basketball player, leading the 1978-79 Quakers to Ivy League and Big 5 championships as a senior. The Quakers then won the NCAA Tournament's Eastern Regional and made the Red and Blue's only NCAA Final Four appearance. In a tournament that featured All-Americans Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Mark Aguirre, it was Price who was the top scorer in the 1979 NCAA Tournament (142 points). Price was inducted into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1985 and was a member of the inaugural class of the Penn Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.
