Betley, Goodman to Compete in Dos Equis 3x3U National Championship

PHILADELPHIA - After a one-year hiatus, the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship is back for Final Four Weekend in Indianapolis, and the University of Pennsylvania will be well-represented this weekend as 2020 graduates Ryan Betley and Devon Goodman will participate in the tournament. Goodman joins Lafayette's Justin Jaworski, Army's Alex King and Navy's Cam Davis in forming the Ivy League/Patriot League team, while Betley--who spent the 2020-21 season playing as a grad transfer at the University of California (Berkeley)--is on the Pac-12/WCC team along with Colorado's McKinley Wright, Oregon State's Kylor Kelley, and Gonzaga's Admon Gilder.

Goodman graduated from Penn last May after a senior season in which he garnered second-team All-Big 5 and honorable mention All-Ivy recognition. He finished the regular season second among Ivy players in steals per game in conference play and was ninth in assists per game and field-goal percentage, tenth in scoring, and 15th in 3-point field goals per contest. Goodman—who made a double-digit jump in points-per-game average from his sophomore (3.8) to his junior (13.9) season—ended the 2019-20 campaign averaging 13.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest overall, and his 43 steals were tops among Ivy players overall. The senior reached double figures in scoring 20 times as a senior, and led the team in scoring in five games (three of them Ivy contests).

Betley also graduated from Penn last May and played three seasons for the Quakers. (He missed his junior season after suffering a knee injury in the season opener at George Mason.) He earned second-team All-Ivy, All-Big 5 and NABC All-District as a sophomore when the Quakers won the Ivy League regular-season and tournament titles. That season, Betley led the Red and Blue in scoring (14.3 ppg) and knocked down 84 three-point baskets, fourth in program history for a season. As a senior, he started in 22 games, missing five to injury, and averaged 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest. Betley graduated from Penn with 944 career points and 10th on the program's all-time list with 169 three-pointers.

About the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championships
Sixty-four players, who have elected to begin their professional careers, will represent all 32 Division I conferences and compete for their share of $150,000—one of the largest prize purses at any FIBA 3x3 sanctioned events—by teaming up with other aspiring pro prospects from around the country. This year, each conference will be paired with another based on geographic region, comparable KenPom preseason rankings and conference history at the Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship. In addition, all 16 teams will be separated in one of two pools, meaning more guaranteed games and more chances for players to take home their share of the $150,000 prize pool.

Teams will play each squad in their respective pool on Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3 before all 16 head to the knockout stage on Sunday, April 4 with the top two teams from each pool receiving byes to the quarterfinals. The winning team from each pool-play game will win $1,000, victories in the first two knockout rounds will net another $1,000, a quarterfinal win is worth $5,000, a semifinal triumph is another $10,000, while the team that takes home the title will add $50,000 to their winnings.

The Ivy/Patriot team will be in Pool A along with teams representing the America East/MAAC, American/Conference USA, Big 12/Southland, Big East/Atlantic-10, Big Sky/Big West, Horizon League/Missouri Valley, and the MEAC/SWAC.

Pool B has teams representing the ACC/Big South, Atlantic Sun/Sun Belt, Big Ten/MAC, Colonial/Northeast, Mountain West/WAC, Pac-12/West Coast, SEC/Southern Conference, and the Summit League/Ohio Valley.
