PHILADELPHIA – Avni Anand and
Aly Abou Eleinen each wrapped up 4-0 weekends as the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams posted dual 9-0 victories over the Bates Bobcats Sunday morning from the Penn Squash Center.
Nick Spizzirri,
Yash Bhargava, and
Brian Cowhey swept the opening crop of matches for the men. None of the six games in Spizzirri and Bhargava's matches ended closer than 11-8; Cowhey dropped the second game of his match, but responded with 11-7 and 11-5 wins in the third and fourth games to close it out.
Eleinen opened the second slate with a 3-1 win out of the #1 spot.
Nathan Kueh followed with a 3-0 win, conceding just six total points, to clinch the victory for the Quakers.
Saksham Choudhary followed with another 3-0 win, his 20th straight regular season victory since the start of the 2019-20 season.
James Flynn and
Roger Baddour opened the final round of matches with two more 3-0 wins. In the final men's match of the weekend,
Alexander Trauber posted a hard-earned 3-0 win with each game gong down to the wire.
On the women's side,
Amina Abou El Enin rallied from 4-1 and 7-5 deficits to win the first game 11-9, and dropped the second game, 13-11, but not before again rallying after going down 9-6; she eventually won in four games.
Navmi Sharma won her match 3-1 and
Abbie Rorke conceded just eight total points in her 3-0 win.
In the second slate,
Avni Anand closed her fourth win of the weekend in dominating fashion, bageling her opponent to close out a 3-0 match.
Euwie Park and
Emma Wolf picked up a 3-1 and 3-0 win, respectively, as the women, like the men, wrapped up the win before the final round of matches had begun.
In the final round of matches,
Dhivya Arasappan posted a 3-0 win in her first collegiate action, dropping just 11 points total.
Ashley Manning and
Penelope Oh wrapped the weekend with two more 3-0 wins for the Quakers.
The women close the 2021 calendar year 6-2, while the men return to action on Saturday, December 4 against Rochester with an 8-0 record, having dropped just one game thus far this season.
