Women's Basketball Treks To Empire State For Battle At St. Francis Brooklyn

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team hits the road for another non-conference matchup on Thursday night, taking on St. Francis Brooklyn in the Empire State at 7 p.m.

Penn-King's Series
This is the ninth meeting between the two programs, as Penn holds a 7-1 lead in the all-time series. The first meeting was on December 28, 1997 in The Palestra, with the Quakers taking the 56-45 decision. The victory spurted a seven-game win streak against the Terriers, the last one coming in 2012 in Brooklyn Heights, 61-60. It was the largest comeback in program history, trailing by 18 with 7:29 remaining. A 22-3 run to close out the game was capped off by the game-winning basket with 6.4 seconds remaining by Alyssa Baron.
 
Last Time We Met
The last time the two teams met was November 9, 2013 in Philadelphia, the only time the Quakers fell to the Terriers, 56-51. St. Francis had three players in double figures, while Penn was led by two 12-point performances by Katy Allen and Sydney Stipanovich. The Quakers forced 17 Terrier turnovers but shot 35.1 percent from the floor.
 
About St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers are looking for their first win of the season, recording a 0-2 start with road losses to Manhattan and Michigan. Their last outing against the Wolverines was a slow first half, going into the locker room with just 16 points, but dropped in 30 in the second half after some adjustments. Off the bench, Fruzsina Horvath registered 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting in 21 minutes of play.
 
Penn's Last Time Out
The Quakers hosted Division III King's (Pa.) on Tuesday night in The Palestra for the home opener, posting a 91-55 decision. It was the first win on their home court in 626 days due to the pandemic and their fourth straight season winning the home opener under head coach Mike McLaughlin. Sophomore Jordan Obi, in her second collegiate game, led the way with her first double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Mandy McGurk set new career marks in points (17) and steals (3), while senior captain Mia Lakstigala had a career night in rebounds (8) and assists (5) to go with nine points.
 
No. 22 In First Mid-Major Poll
The College Insider posted its first mid-major poll of the season this week, with the Quakers moving up to No. 22 with 161 points. In the preseason poll, Penn was receiving votes. The Quakers have several opponents in the rankings: No. 9 Princeton, No. 14 Columbia, No. 15 Stony Brook, and Bucknell receiving votes.
