CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team wrapped the 2021 season Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Harvard Crimson.

Quaker Notemeal

*Senior Spencer Higgins, making just his fourth career appearance, scored his first career goal in the 89th minute.

*The Quakers tied their season-high with 20 shots and matched their second-highest total of the season in on-target attempts, with seven.

*Penn set a season-high with 11 corners; they also held the opposition without a corner kick for the first time since September 9, 2018

How It Happened

Harvard scored on two of its first three shots in the first 15 minutes, then didn't register another on-target attempt the rest of the first half. The Quakers ended the opening half with five shots, a total they surpassed in the first 22 minutes of the second half when they attempted seven more but were unable to find the back of the net with any of them.

As the shots piled up, so did the corner kicks, and off the Quakers' final one of the match in the 88th minute, they finally broke through when Higgins put home a loose ball from in close after an initial shot from Brendan Hanrahan was saved. Harvard added the final goal of the match in the 90th.

The Quakers finish the season with 23 goals, their highest total since 2016.
