The Series with Columbia

Saturday's meeting between the Quakers and the Lions will be the 30th match. Penn holds the slight advantage in the all-time series, 14-11-4. The last meeting between the two teams saw Columbia take a 1-0 win in 2019. The Lions scored the eventual game winning goal in the 74th minute.

About Columbia

Despite an 0-2 start in Ivy League play, Columbia had a successful non-conference start to the season, going 5-2-1. The Lions opened the season 0-2-1 and then proceeded to win their next five matches. Nata Ramirez (3g,2a) leads the Columbia attack with eight points, Sophia Cavaliere (3g,1a) and Madi Pilla (2g,3a) have seven points each, while Ally Clark (2g,2a) rounds out the top scorers with six points. Columbia returns two of its five All-Ivies from 2019 in Shira Cohen and Ally Clark.

Quaker Notemeal

*Last time out, the Quakers opened the home portion of Ivy League play with a 2-0 victory against Cornell.

*In a match that saw several firsts, junior defender Emily Pringle recorded her first collegiate goal in the 12th minute.

*In the second half, sophomore Paige Kenton scored her first collegiate goal after she rebounded a Ginger Fontenot shot off the post. Sophomore Lauren Teuschl was also credited with an assist on the play.

*The Quakers win against Cornell marked another first for head coach Casey Brown as she picked up her first career Ivy League win.

* Sophomore goalkeeper Laurence Gladu recorded her fourth clean sheet of 2021 with the shutout of Cornell.

*Senior Mia Shenk leads the Quakers offense with five goals but is two points behind Teuschl, who has three goals and six assists. Lawton is third on the team with seven points while Janae Stewart has six points (2g,2a) and senior Jackie Burder has two goals.

*Penn's other goal scorers this season are Pringle, Kenton, Abbey Duncan (at Maryland), and sophomores Madison Liebman (at Hofstra) and Ginger Fontenot (at Temple).

*Penn named three captains for the 2021 season prior to the opener. Senior JoJo Cotto and juniors Pringle and Peyton Raun lead the Quakers.

*Raun is one of two players who received honorable mention All-Ivy recognition in 2019, the other being Sizzy Lawton.

*A reminder that the four-year seniors on the team—Bruder, Cotto, Duncan, Shenk, Lucy Kellogg and Allie Schachter—were members of Penn's last Ivy League championship squad, in 2018.

*If you cross paths with Penn assistant coach Becky Edwards, congratulate her on the August 18 announcement that she will be inducted into the Florida State University Athletics Hall of Fame later this year.
