PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team hosted the 24th annual Cissie Leary Memorial Invitational this weekend, which began on Friday, Oct. 22 and continued through Sunday, Oct. 24. Unlike previous years, the tournament format did not feature a bracket.

About the Cissie Leary Invitational
First contested in 1997, the Cissie Leary Invitational honors the memory and legacy of Cissie Leary, head women's tennis coach at Penn from 1977-1996. She had 16 winning seasons at the helm of the Red and Blue, compiling a career record of 229-119. In 1995, her team was 16-7 overall, and 6-1 in the Ivy League to earn a trip to the NCAA East Regional. Leary passed away in November of 1996 following a long battle with scleroderma, and this tournament has been held every year since in her honor. 

Quaker Notemeal
Marija Curnic went 1-2 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles.
Iris Gallo went 1-3 in singles play and won her only doubles match of the weekend as she was paired up with Thomas.
Gavriella Smith 3-1 in singles play and 0-3 in doubles.
Saige Roskoff was 2-2 in singles and lost both of her doubles matches this weekend.
Sonia Tartakovsky lost both of her matches this weekend.
Gibson Thomas went 2-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.
Sonia Maheswari was 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play.
Clarise Huang 2-2 in singles play and 0-2 in doubles.
Eileen Wang went 3-0 in singles play and was 2-1 in doubles play.

The Competition
The participants in this year's tournament includes five teams, including another Ivy League squad: Cornell as well as two Philadelphia schools: Drexel and Temple, Delaware, and the host Quakers.
