Field Hockey Slips To No. 23 Blue Hens, 1-0

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team battled its seventh nationally ranked opponent on Sunday, falling to No. 23 Delaware, 1-0.

Quaker Notemeal
*It's the first time since September 26 that the Quakers were held scoreless.

*Against all nationally ranked opponents this season, Penn's defense allowed the least amount of goals to Delaware on Sunday. The backline limited the Blue Hens to just four shots on target.

*The Quakers had three shots in the game, two by senior captain Gracyn Banks and one by sophomore Allison Kuzyk that went on target.

*Sophomore keeper Sabien Paumen played all 60 minutes in the cage, making three saves.

How It Happened
The two teams were dead locked through the first half with defensive mentality, only totaling five shots through 30 minutes. Delaware held the slight edge in attempts, 3-2, but the game went into the break, 0-0.

In the third quarter, the Blue Hens broke the scoring silence with a penalty corner finish from the top of the circle, as the shot made its way through traffic and into the back of the cage.

In the final frame, the Quakers had one more opportunity to send the game to extra time. Courtney Kenah sent a corner to the top of the circle where Banks ripped a shot that ended up getting blocked.

Up Next
The Quakers prepare for two more games this upcoming week, taking on Columbia on the road Friday before hosting Temple on Sunday at Ellen Vagelos Field.
