PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team needed just four minutes to take the early lead.
Miranda Farman's first career-goal would prove to be all that was needed.
Mia Shenk tallied three assists in the Quakers' 4-0 victory over Delaware State on Monday night at Rhodes Field.
Quaker Notemeal
*Penn remains perfect at Rhodes Field in 2021, improving to 8-0-0.
*Penn outshot Delaware State by a dominating 20-4 mark including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Penn totaled 15 second half shots.
*The corner kicks were very lopsided as Penn took nine to just two by DSU.
*
Paige Kenton (1g,1a) and
Isobel Glass (2g) led the Quakers with four shots each, as the two accounted for three of the four Penn goals. Farman tallied a goal as Shenk was credited with three of the Quakers seven assists.
*Shenk's three assists in a single match are the most for a Quaker since Lauren Oliver and Kathryn Barth each tallied three assists in an 8-0 victory against NJIT in 2011.
*For the first time this season, Penn used another goalkeeper as sophomore
Laurence Gladu was in goal for the first 45 minutes making a save.
Maggie Robinson entered the match at halftime and made a clutch save in her collegiate debut to keep DSU off the board.
How It Happened
Penn needed less than four minutes to get a lead it wouldn't relinquish on Monday night.
Miranda Farman's first collegiate goal proved to be the winner, as she pushed a ball on goal that was misplayed by the Delaware keeper for the score.
Penn didn't really press the action the rest of the half, but that changed in the second half as the Quakers poured 15 shots on the Hornets nest. That relentlessness paid off in the 69th minute, when
Sizzy Lawton sent a cross from the left side to
Isobel Glass, who turned the ball past a DSU defender in front and slotted a shot inside the right post.
The third goal came quickly after that—just 3:22 later, to be exact. Glass was again the beneficiary, this time the cross coming from the right side as
Katerina Peroulas found the freshman in stride and she pushed it home from right in front of the goal.
The Quakers put the exclamation point on this one in the final minute.
Andrea Escobio fired a long throw-in to Shenk, who turned and threaded a pass to
Paige Kenton who easily finished in front.
