PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team was ranked No. 18 in the 2021 Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men's Preseason Top 20 Poll released by US Lacrosse Magazine on Wednesday afternoon.
The Quakers finished the shortened 2020 season with a 2-3 mark. Four of the Red and Blue's five games last spring came against nationally ranked opponents as Penn continued to have one of toughest schedules in the country.
Penn returns its top three goal scorers from last season in
Sean Lulley,
Dylan Gergar and
Adam Goldner.
Lulley, a 2020 Maverik Media All-American, led the team in both assists (16) and points (30). He ranked fourth in the NCAA in points per game (6.0) and fifth in all of Division I in assists per game (3.2) as a junior.
Gergar had a breakout campaign as a sophomore, scoring a team-best 19 goals and recording a career-high 23 points.
Goldner continued to etch his name in the program record books as he netted his 100th career goal last spring. He is just the sixth player in Quaker history to score 100 goals and he is 24 away from setting a new program record.
2021 Preseason All-American
Sam Handley returns for Penn after missing the final four games of last season with an injury.
On defense, sophomore
Peter Blake looks to lead the Red and Blue after being named to SBNation's College Crosse Freshman All-America team in 2020.
