Four Men's Lacrosse Players Named USILA Scholar All-America

PHILADELPHIA – Four members of the University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team were named USILA Scholar All-Americans on Friday evening as announced by the organization.

Kyle Gallagher, Mark Evanchick, Adam Goldner and Kyle Thornton were honored by the USILA for their work in the classroom.

A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field.

Gallagher was dominant in the X for the Quakers in 2020. He led the NCAA with 15.40 ground balls per game and he won 102-of-156 faceoffs during the spring. He also added a goal and an assist. Gallagher, a 2019 third-team USILA All-America, was also named a 2020 Maverik Media All-America. He won 20 or more faceoffs in each of the last three games of the season, highlighted by winning a career-high 26 against No. 2 Penn State.

Evanchick started all five games on defense for the Quakers in 2020. The 2019 third-team USILA All-America was also named a 2020 Maverik Media All-America by Inside Lacrosse and he finished with four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the truncated season. In early May, Evanchick was selected ninth overall in the MLL Draft by the Philadelphia Barrage.

Earlier this spring, Goldner became just the sixth player in program history to score 100 career goals. In 2020, he scored 11 goals and racked up five assists for 16 points. He is currently, fifth in Penn history with 106 goals and 13th in points with 126. As a junior, he was an Honorable mention USILA All-America, Second-team All-Ivy, Ivy League Tournament All-Tournament Team selection, Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honoree and he also set program record for goals in a season with 56. He was selected by the Philadelphia Barrage in the 2020 MLL Draft.

Thornton was a stalwart on the backline for Penn in 2020. Against No. 2 Penn State, he scored his first career goal after going coast-to-coast. He finished the year with five GB and three CT.
