Men's Tennis

Zucker Named Sol Feinstone Undergraduate Award Recipient

PHILADELPHIA – Ahead of the University of Pennsylvania's 264th Commencement, scheduled for Monday, the 2019-20 student awards were announced on Friday afternoon. Among them, Penn men's tennis player Jeff Zucker was recognized as one of this year's Sol Feinstone Undergraduate Award recipients.

According to the University's guidelines, the Sol Feinstone Awards may be presented to a sophomore, junior or senior who has contributed to "orderly and constructive social and educational change within or outside the University community." A committee of students, faculty and staff make the final selection from the list of candidates.

A rising senior, Zucker received the recognition for his work establishing a program that provides Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training for all of Penn's nearly 1,000 varsity student-athletes. This work was done in collaboration with Penn's Sports Performance group and Penn Medicine, specifically the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). Zucker also is involved with Classroom Champions, a program that connects athletes with young students to provide mentorship, as well as the University's Student Activities Council.

"I am delighted that Jeff is being recognized for his passion and determination to ensure that every student-athlete at Penn is trained in CPR during their tenure," said Andrea Wieland, Penn's Associate AD for Sports Performance and Zucker's co-collaborator on this project. "CPR is a life skill and a leadership skill, and thanks to Jeff's efforts every student-athlete will now be trained in how to take control of a very unnerving scene with the confidence and skill set to potentially save a life. Congratulations to Jeff, and we greatly appreciate the Mobile CPR Project and Dr. Ben Abella for being amazing partners in helping us achieve this lofty goal!"

A Biological Basis of Behavior major in the College of Arts and Sciences, Zucker has been a three-year member of the men's tennis program. Though injuries have hampered him over his career, Zucker has five singles wins and two doubles wins over his first three seasons. Penn won the ECAC championship his sophomore year.
