PHILADELPHIA – The No. 9/9 University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team fell to No. 14/14 Villanova, 12-10, at Franklin Field on Friday evening as part of the 2020 Philly 4 Lacrosse Classic.
With the loss, Penn fell to 1-3 on the year with all four contests coming against nationally-ranked teams. The Wildcats improved to 4-2 on the year with their fourth straight win.

Dylan Gergar scored a career-high six goals. He also tied his career-high in points with six. He has recorded six points in back-to-back games for the Quakers.

Kyle Gallagher won 20 of 26 faceoffs. It marked the second straight game in which he has won 20 or more faceoffs. He also grabbed a season-high 16 groundballs. Gallagher has registered 14 or more groundballs in all four games this year.
* Penn had 21 turnovers in the game.

Robert Schain had two goals and one assist for a career-high three points. His man-up goal in the first quarter was the first marker of his collegiate career.

Sean Lulley had one goal and five assists. It was his second consecutive game with five or more helpers.

Patrick Burkinshaw made a season-high 13 saves in net for the Red and Blue.

Peter Blake each had two caused turnovers apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn came charging out of the gate with the first four goals of the contest over the opening nine-plus minutes. During the surge, Gergar potted three markers. Villanova answered with back-to-back tallies from Keegan Khan to pull within two at 4-2 heading in the second quarter.
Penn stretched its lead back to three Early in the second as Schain found the back of the net off a feed from Lulley. Following Schain's strike, the Wildcats reeled off four unanswered goals over a 10-minute stretch to take a 6-5 lead.
Lulley scored his 13th of the season with a little over two minutes left in the opening half before Villanova quickly answered to take an 8-7 edge into the break.
Penn outscored Nova, 3-2, in the third courtesy of a two Gergar goals and another from
Adam Goldner. The teams entered the fourth tied at nine.
Villanova struck first in the final frame with the go-ahead goal coming just under 90 seconds in. With a little under seven minutes left, Gergar added another tally to knot the tilt at 10.
Penn was unable to capitalize on chances over the final six minutes of the game and Villanova scored twice to earn the road win.
