NEW YORK – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team cruised through its opening round ECAC Tournament match over seventh-seeded Dartmouth on Friday evening.
The Quakers once more earned the doubles point once more with victories at Nos. 1 and 2. Iuliia Bryzgalova and Marija Curnic, a top-40 doubles team in the country, won 6-3 and freshmen Amanda Chan and Sonia Tartakovsky earned a 6-4 victory to seal the point.
In singles, Bryzgalova, who recently moved up to No. 11 in the country – the highest ranking of a player in program history – won while only losing a pair of games. Needing two more courts to earn the win, Curnic came through at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win and then Clarise Huang finished off the Big Green with a three-set thriller, closing it out at No. 6 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
Penn advances to the ECAC semifinal to play Yale on Saturday at 5 p.m.
