HOW IT HAPPENED
Phoebe Sterba scored the opening basket when she pulled up from the wing with a hand in her face. Kayla Padilla stopped and popped from just beyond the foul line on the next possession and then Eleah Parker carved out some space on a miss and easily banked in her putback. The Quakers opened their lead to five when they doubled up Dartmouth at 10-5 after Padilla drilled a three from the wing.
Dartmouth cut Penn's lead to two with 1:59 remaining in the opening period, but the Quakers answered with six straight tallies to take an eight-point lead after 10 minutes, 18-10. Parker rattled in a bunny and then converted a pair at the free throw line before Kendall Grasela silkily floated in a runner in the final minute for her first points of the game.
Outside of the break between quarters, Penn continued its run with the next 12 points, eventually ripping off an 18-0 spurt combined between the first and second quarters. In the road matchup at Dartmouth earlier this month, Penn's 29-0 first-half run blew the game wide open. To begin the second, Tori Crawford banked in a layup and then Padilla curled around and screen and bolted to the rim for two. Parker and Crawford were a load for the Big Green to handle as each of them alternated for the next eight points, eventually pushing Penn to a 30-10 lead.
The Quakers took a 30-14 advantage into the halftime break as the Red and Blue held Dartmouth to just four points in the second period for the second time this season. A huge component of Penn's 18-point halftime lead came on the offensive glass, snatching seven rebounds leading to 12 second-chance points compared to Dartmouth's four.
Parker continued dominating around the rim in the third quarter as Penn let loose with eight straight points while the junior center accounted for six of them, sandwiching an open layup from Padilla. After five consecutive points from Dartmouth, Sterba locked and loaded again from the wing, canning a three right in her defender's face, ballooning the Quakers' lead to 41-19 at the midway point of the quarter.
Parker scored six of Penn's eight down the stretch of the third, piling up 24 points to go with her 13 rebounds as she recorded her fifth double-double in the last eight games and gave Penn a 49-26 lead through three quarters.
Katie Kinum erupted in the fourth, drilling a pair of threes and then another jumper within the first three minutes, helping Penn build a 30-point lead with just five minutes to play. The Quakers sealed the 67-31 victory down the straight, holding Dartmouth to their season-best 31 points.
