Concerning the Quakers
- Penn enters the weekend's loaded slate with a 1-3 record in duals this season. After a loss to No. 1 Penn State and narrow defeats to Old Dominion and Kent State, Penn marked one in the win column with a decisive, 48-3 victory over Duke to cap off the Virginia Duals.
- Michael Colaiocco will enter the weekend ranked 9th at 125 by Intermat and TrackWrestling after going 2-0 at the Virginia Duals last week. He is 14-4 on the season and improved his dual meet record to 2-1. Colaiocco's four losses have all been by decision and have come by a combined deficit of four points.
- Doug Zapf continued to climb the national rankings after finishing with a perfect, 3-0 record at the Virginia Duals last weekend—including a 6-1 decision over 11th-ranked Se'Derian Perry of Old Dominion. He broke the top 20 after punching in at No. 17 in FloWrestling's top-25 this week. Zapf is 16-5 on the season—eclipsing his freshman-year total of 14 wins—and is 3-1 in duals.
- Anthony Artalona will look to bounce back this week after his first dual defeat of the season last weekend at the Virginia Duals. Artalona has placed in each of the three tournaments he competed in this season, including a sixth-place finish at the prestigious Midlands Championships, a second-place finish at the Michigan State Open, and a third-place finish at the Keystone Classic. Last year's EIWA champion at 149 pounds enters the weekend ranked No. 13 at 157 by TrackWrestling.
Addressing Army
- Penn opens its EIWA slate against Army. The matchup will be the 31st between the two teams, with the Black Knights holding a 14-13-3 edge.
- Penn's dual against Army is the first match in an 11-match stretch of EIWA duals which will lead straight into the EIWA Championships.
- The Quakers returned from West Point victorious in their last visit, storming back from a 12-0 deficit after the first three matches to win, 19-18.
- Army enters the weekend with a 6-2 record. The Black Knights are 1-0 in EIWA duals after a 33-7 win over American at the West Point Duals in early January.
Bits about Binghampton
- Penn will return to The Palestra to continue the dual season against Binghamton. This will mark the ninth meeting between the Quakers and the Bearcats, with Penn holding a 6-2 edge.
- After dropping its first six duals against Penn, Binghamton has bounced back with a win in each of the last two years, including a 19-18 victory the last time the teams met in The Palestra.
- Binghamton is 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in EIWA competition. After a 25-9 win over Sacred Heart, the Bearcats have lost three consecutive duals to start 2020.
Looking at LIU
- Following its rise to the NCAA Division I this fall, LIU will compete in a dual against Penn for the first time in program history.
- The Sharks are 2-15 at the midway point of their inaugural season. LIU closed out 2019 with a pair of EIWA losses against Drexel and Bucknell and will head to The Palestra with an 0-2 conference record.
