PHILADELPHIA - An goal in the 82nd minute from junior Joey Bhangdia lifted the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer program past the visiting Marist Red Foxes Monday night, 1-0. HOW IT HAPPENED
The early portions of the match involved a testing of the waters from both sides, with Penn holding the bulk of the possession in their offensive half of the field. The game's first real opportunities came around the 20 minute mark, first on a shot from the left side from Stitz grabbed the goalkeeper, followed by a nice run from Bhangdia that couldn't sneak past Marist's Sam Ilin.

Penn had another chance with 15 minutes left in the half, this time off a corner kick, as Brandon Bartel connected with the head of Alex Touche, but the junior sailed it wide right. Marist's keeper recorded one final save in the first half on a shot from Isaac McGinnis at the top of the box, and Penn held the Marist attack at bay into the break.

Matt Leigh find himself with a good look on goal just seconds into second half to test the Marist defense, but again, Penn was stopped by the netminder. Marist upped its offense as the minutes ticked by, stringing together five shots in a row before Penn's eventual game winner. The Quaker defense was tested with loose balls in the box, but was able to get a final touch away when it mattered most.

Penn's timely strike began around midfield with a string of solid passes between the backline of Casey Barone, Touche and Guhr. Once in the midfield, Bartel traveled up the middle of the field, finding Stitz with space ahead of the penalty box. Stitz weaved through traffic to the left of the box and slid a pass to the feet of Bhangdia who slotted a goal to the far post off his left foot, putting Penn up 1-0. In desperation mode, the Red Foxes struck for four shots in the final four minutes of play, but it was too little too late as the Quakers held on to win.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Quakers will hit the road to the Big Apple on Friday, Sept. 13, visiting St. John's for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
